Water bonding is a booster for the ply bonding process. With three or more layers, bonding is possible without additional knurling. This makes the embossing design very flexible and cost-saving, as no additional knurling tool is required. Spraying on a defined amount of water massively improves layer adhesion, as the water increases the penetration of the previously applied adhesive in each individual layer. The swelling properties of the fibers also enable improvements to the paper / tissue in terms of dimension, bulkiness and volume.
